These vector illustrations are inspired by the music streaming service Soundcloud and fueled by my love for the platform.
I’ve been using the site for 5 years now daily as a means of discovering new music and wanted to create something unique based off of it.
It may not be the most well received streaming service but has found a home for those wanting to put their music up in hopes it might gain some traction to listeners around the world.
From this, some artists that are well known today have the site to thank for catapulting them into the music world stratosphere thanks to the attention received to select songs.
This project transforms the bars that act as soundwaves on the site and takes the white spaces in between them, filters it into half the amount of lines created from the white space, and created into a 3D vector of the artists face.
In order to do this I created a template and placed a headshot of the artist for me to trace on tracing paper as practice. From there I’d scan in the tracing and put it into illustrator as a basis and do it all over line by line with vectors to create what you see.
All the artists featured have the platform to thank for their initial and even continued success as big name music artists, giving them their first millions of plays based off one or a couple songs that got their name out there and raised their followings through the roof.
I hope to keep expanding on this for more and more artists that keep rising from the site. It’s definitely a huge passion project of mine but I love the open-endedness of it all and hope to do another one soon even though some take a very long time to complete.
